Improved Air Filter

Postby oldvanman » Sun Apr 17, 2016 10:25 am

G'day

I travel a lot of dirt roads and so get dust and things in the air filter. They are expensive to replace and so I have a solution to extend its life.
I have made a prefilter out of a mesh stove exhaust fan filter. I folded it so that it was 4 layers thick and cut it to be the same length of the inside of the filter box and as wide as the outside width of the filter. I sit it in the filter box with the edge nearest the front pushed down and the rear edge sitting just above the intake. I give a liberal cover of filter spray. I clean it every month or after a trip. It definitely keeps the main filter clean for longer.

Nice mod, glad it doesn't get that dusty over here in Blighty!

G'day

I will be travelling over 1600kms this week and with the ongoing drought the dust is so fine and so much of it.
I am working on a better intake.

1600km - just a day out then

We've got the opposite problem at the mo - everywhere is too wet!

Are you intending to try and make the intake higher up - like a Landrover snorkel?
