The Quotation facility on the forum

Postby alanbirt » Fri Aug 11, 2017 9:38 am

I notice that when others utilise the Quotation facility on the forum, the quotation appears in a blue box separate from the subsequent text. However, when I use it, the text of what I am quoting appears as a prefix to my message of reply and not in a separate box.

Am I not operating the system correctly ? Please kindly advise me.

OK -- so I've clicked the tab 'quote' and I now have your message displayed above as:-

"
'your message'
"

and I'm now typing these words then pressing 'submit'.

Which I do. Very odd. Could it be your browser? Which do you use?

Also, try editing before posting to omit the {="ladypenelope" }, and see what happens.

Yes, your message now shows my quotations in display boxes so the embedded codes are definitely within the message but, for some reason, my computer is not identifying these codes.

I am using Windows 10 and Chrome. I'll try with 'Internet Explorer' and with 'Edge' to see if it makes any difference but not now. I've just come home from an evening meeting and I am rather tired. I'll try the other browsers tomorrow.

I also use Win 10 and Chrome, and it works ok for me. The cause seems to be more obscure than that.

The situation concerning my difficulty in using fully the quotation system is even more strange than I thought. I have come to the local library to use an independent computer which does not have any previous references to me.

I'm using 'suzuki4u' as a visitor, in others words I could be "Joe Bloggs", so I could read but not post messages. On viewing my previous messages which I had posted using the quote-facility they still appear on the screen *not* in a box whereas I am told that other members do receive my messages with quotations in a box.

Having now signed-in to post this message, as it seems I and my computer are 'jinxed', I shall now leave this topic as unsolvable and not waste any further time on it.

This has been niggling me because i think I had this problem on another forum. If I recall correctly the solution was to go in to Chrome's settings, tools or such and get it to reinstall itself. I cannot be more specific but I am positive there is an option to do this without a total reinstall of it. :?
