electric power steering

Postby kforkevin » Fri Sep 14, 2012 8:07 am

HI, im looking for any info on fitting eps to my swift as the existing fluid rack is just too slow ( for rally and track use ) . will the modern suzuki swift eps fit in place ? as they look the same - or have i to go and get a horrible corsa set up and make do. i really need to do this as the other competiors are getting away " and my arms are getting slower . kforkevin.

Search on redline for posts by "blake". He has an awesome hillclimb 4WD Cultus that has eps fitted. He used components off a BMW Mini from memory...

Have just looked at blakes posts on redline gti, what a mad car- but he is using a electric pump to drive a mk2 fluid rack, mines a mk1 and i think they never had any form of power assist steering, so im still looking to fit eps - any one ? kforkevin.

swift sport eps feels a bit flat to me, not enough feedback.

not sure it will solve your problem anyway, you will still have the same gear ratio. a swift hydraulic rack may have quicker ratios but then you have to carry the extra weight

either will allow a smaller diameter steering wheel - the old fashioned way of speeding up the steering.

Kevin

I have fitted Corsa electric power steering with adjustable dash pot to both my Mk1 rally car and navigation car.

Its a little tight to fit and will need some angle grinding but I think I have some photos of how I did it if you send me your e-mail address.
